    EXCELLENT.

Posted by Brian Dunkin on 15th Apr 2016

Without any previous musical experience at all I approached this course, after a good look around at alternative ways to learn, with some trepidation. No problem --- Allison builds from one small brick to the next in a simple, straightforward progression, theory being slowly introduced only as and when required. Youtube videos are very helpful and marry well to the book. The advantage of this form of learning is, of course, that you plod along at your own pace although, strangely, I often feel the "presence" of my tutor [but not so strongly that I desist from loudly and roundly cursing my often feeble efforts]. I'm up to lesson 9/10 now and looking forward to Book 2.

Too early to see results, but looking good so far!

As I only downloaded these publications a couple of days ago, it would be unfair to pass comment on their ability to teach me to play, but in terms of value for money I really can't see where anyone could go wrong here. At a time when a second-rate paperback from W H Smith costs about £7.99, there's an awful lot of info crammed into these two books for less than double that price. Given that the excellent YouTube tutorials which accompany the books are available to the student 24/7 for free, what's not to like about this package? Well done Alison! My background story is a familiar one. I was the kid who wanted piano lessons back in the 1960s, but had no piano and my parents couldn't afford one, or the cost of tuition. They probably didn't relish the idea of creating a Rick Wakeman clone either, but that's another story! At the age of 63 I Googled "piano tutors in the Norwich area" and stumbled upon these gems. Although Alison operates her business less than 5 miles from my home, this online course is a much more flexible learning method for me than traditional face-to-face lessons, and is so affordable. Who knows, if I manage to progress beyond the initial faltering steps on my cheapo second-hand Yamaha keyboard, I may well decide to hone my technique with some one-to-one tuition. In the meantime, any lack of progress on my part will be down to my input as a student, since the tutor has spared no effort in preparing this excellent online course.

    A great motivator

Posted by David Healy on 10th Jan 2016

As a (very) late beginner I've found the combination of the books and the You Tube lessons wonderful for motivating me to make progress, which this material really does create. The early stages are tough, but looking ahead, the books provide a fantastic target to continue working towards.

    Good self paced learning tool

Posted by Michael Kleibrink on 7th Jan 2016

I am 69 and love music, but don't sight read, yet. I just got a keyboard and wanted to learn to play it correctly. I watched with the first three videos, which are free on Youtube, but needed the books to practice. Together they are helping me to progress at a steady pace. Also having the barcode link to videos on the printed pages really helps. I just turn to the lesson and scan the code with the reader I downloaded and it brings up the video. Great teaching tool.

    Too early

Hi yes the books look like their exactly what I need. A little more time to truly evaluate them would be more accurate. I just purchased them.

    Inspiring

Posted by Felicia J. Martz on 18th Dec 2015

I have been completely thrilled to begin my piano studies with the help of these materials by Alison Sparrow. In conjunction with her many YouTube videos, the lessons have proved invaluable. Overall, they are a great inspiration to "stay the course." I continue to remind myself that exceptional progress does not happen overnight! Although, with some help, I've learned that what looked too difficult yesterday usually seems much easier to tackle today. I greatly appreciate the impact that one person's hard work and dedication has made on my studies and daily life.
