Yes this is a very good songbook. I’m relatively new to violin, and although I play other instruments, the first few months of learning to develop good habits to play violin properly are very challenging, so I’m currently working the first third of the book, but my overview perspective is that I believe Allison did a good job providing musical variety and targeting a good proficiency level of tunes to master before moving on to higher levels of violin play. I believe Ms. Sparrow is a well qualified violin mentor, you can learn much from her instruction, and these pieces are well worth a go.

Alison has done a fantastic job teaching through Youtube and reinforcing her lessons with the Song Book 1. Violin is a highly technical instrument, and short of an actual, in person instructor, Alison's online approach is excellent!

This book was perfect, not too easy and not too hard. It gives me practice on my timing, intonation, and sting crossings. With the video there is no more guessing if I am hitting the notes perfect or if my timing is off. I will definitely be buying song book 2.

As a complete novice (bought my violin 5 days ago) this is fantastic. Hoping that I won’t be torturing the neighbours for too long!

The songs in this book are wonderful. As a beginner adult student, playing “Mary Had a Little Lamb”, or along that line, was not going to keep my interest. These songs are a perfect selection. They are simple enought to learn from and advance through. The complexity is starts simple enough and they increase in complexity as you move forward, but not with huge leaps. There are tips in the back that Alison has identified as possible trouble spots. She explained the trouble spots and how to negotiate, just like the YouTube version. The song that Alison wrote is beautiful! It is a little beyond my capability right now, but I gave it a Shot because of all the songs, she plays them all in her YouTube, this is by far the most beautfiful of all the songs. I cannot wait to be able to play it and give it justice. Right now I have no instructor. I have been using Alison’s YouTube instruction and some scale books. The music store I visit is closed right now for vacation. I bought my violin last week. They re-open the end of this week. I will go in and sign up for lessons and get fitted for a better chin anf shoulder rest. My violin is the Mendini mv300. It sounds wonderful with the strings it came with, but I swapped them out for a better brand and it is much better now. The chin and shoulderests need replacing, though.
